Happy Valentine's Day and 100th Day of School

We had a great day today!
It was very busy, but JKs had a lot of fun!
In the morning we had a Valentine's Day assembly with a fun house game.
Then JKs had music and French classes.
In the afternoon we had our 100th Day of School presentations. Next, we made crowns by counting the stickers or drawings on each paper strip.
Then we had gym class, completed the popcorn 100 chart activity and distributed the cards.

IMPORTANT

Hello SJA Families!



The Re-registration Deadline is fast approaching (February 18 by 4pm), and we want to ensure that your child’s registration is complete when returned, to avoid having to send home for missing information. Some common things that are missed:

·         Signatures on application form

·         Health card number

·         Emergency contact info (other than parent/guardian)

·         3 sets of initials on the tuition fee schedule (one for payment plan, and two at the bottom)

·         Completed payment methods form (parent name(s), student name(s), banking info (or void cheque), selecting business or personal use, and signature

Please ensure that you are returning:

·         Signed application form (indicate any changes to information)

·         Signed re-registration agreement

·         Completed and signed health history form

·         Completed and signed photo permission form

·         Completed and signed payment methods form

·         Initialed tuition fee schedule with payment plan selection

·         Bussing form (if applicable)

While we will do the best to accommodate existing families, after this deadline we will be accepting new families from our growing waitlist. Don’t be disappointed, hand in your completed re-registration package prior to the deadline.  Please note that the school will be closed Friday (for PD)  and Monday (Family Day).

Morning circle time – we had our special helper of the day adding the date to our calendar, we sang our morning songs, then added one more popcorn to our 100^th Day of school counting. Tomorrow is the day!!!

This week we are learning the name, sound and formation of letters V and W.  Today we used the bingo daubers to find all Vs and Ws on our paper.

Then JKs completed a worksheet where they practiced identifying the beginning sound.

100th Day Activity – this week our focus is on Valentine’s Day and 100^th Day of School activities. Today we used cotton swabs and paint to fill in the 10 frames up to 100. We also used stickers to count to 100 using the 10 frame.

Centers - today JKs had the opportunity to have play dough during our purposeful play time. The benefits of play dough play are numerous and children of all ages have much to gain from engaging with play dough activities. Here are some of the benefits: fine motor skill development, creativity and imagination, hand-eye co-ordination, social skills, literacy and numeracy development.

Valentine’s Day Activity – this week our focus is on Valentine’s Day and 100^th Day of School activities. Today we completed 2 activities which involved fine motor skills and language arts. First activity, JKs glued little pieces of paper on a heart template. Second activity, they were asked to draw 4 things they love.

Today we worked on beginning sounds. JKs were instructed to look at the picture and color the correct beginning sound. 

Math/UOI – in math we used number puzzles to reinforce numeracy.

Centers -  today JKs had different types of blocks to explore. Blocks are great for developing the following: problem solving, imagination, self expression, mathematics, creativity, science, self –esteem, social and emotional growth.

Today we used our language time to “catch up” on missing work. While students made letters using play dough, I worked with students, one on one and completed the writing with phonics workbook.

Math – JKs reviewed the 3D shapes and then used them to build a structure (castle, building, ramp).

Centers -  today JKs had the opportunity to play dress up. Dress-up engages your child’s brain and memory. Dramatic play requires kids to remember what they’ve seen or heard. It also develops the following: vocabulary building, problem-solving, empathy, emotional development, motor skills, socialization and imagination.

We also had the opportunity to hear a gr.3 student retell a story book. The speech for gr. 3s is based on a story retell. They all did a great job!
