Happy Friday

Morning circle time – we had our special helper of the day adding the date to our calendar, we sang our morning songs, then added one more popcorn to our 100th Day of school counting.

Snack – JKs were encouraged to eat a healthy snack.

French class – please visit Mme. Jessica’s blog http://mllehousja.blogspot.com/

Recess and Lunch

Language – we reviewed our phonics song for all letters learned so far. Here is the link for our weekly Jolly Phonics songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7K2rxtgQpd0

This is the song for letter Q: https://youtu.be/CZ6L8EmV3gg

Then we had our Show and Tell presentations for letter S.
These are the skills JKs develop when they do show and tell:
- stays on topic
- uses loud and clear voice
- makes eye contact with the audience
- describes the object using full sentence and descriptive words

This is how you can help your child:
  • Help your child select an item and have them explain to you how it fits with the letter(s) of week
  • Help your child practice describing the object and explaining why they want to share it with the class.
  • Reinforce effective speaking habits, such as looking at the audience and speaking clearly.
  • Ask questions about the item so that your child can be ready to answer when friends and teachers have questions.

Math – today we completed some activities which involved sequencing, patterning and sorting.

Recess and Lunch/snack

Gym class – please visit Ms. V’s blog https://msvphysed.blogspot.com/

Centers -  today JKs had the opportunity to play dress up. Dress-up engages your child’s brain and memory. Dramatic play requires kids to remember what they’ve seen or heard. It also develops the following: vocabulary building, problem-solving, empathy, emotional development, motor skills, socialization and imagination.

Poem Practice – JKs are working hard at practicing the following when presenting their poem:

-         Projection

-         Pacing

-         Enunciation and Articulation

-         Memorization

-         Body Language

Poetry memorization builds vocabulary and comprehension. As students practice their poem presentation in class they are building presentation skills, which leads to a sense of pride, satisfaction and accomplishment. Keep up with practicing at home as well!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Centers -  today we had a variety of sorting stations. Sorting is such an important concept for children to understand that things are alike and different as well as that they can belong and be organized into certain groups. Getting practice with sorting at an early age is important for numerical concepts and grouping numbers and sets when they're older. This type of thinking starts them on the path of applying logical thinking to objects, mathematical concepts and every day life in general.

·        - having regular opportunities to practice familiar reading with 1:1 assistance

·        - enjoying fun, positive experiences with ‘big kid’ who is now a recognizable face in the school community
