Happy Monday!

Morning circle time – we had our special helper of the day doing our calendar, we sang our morning songs, then added one more popcorn to our 100th Day of school counting. On Mondays we usually do our "sharing time". Everyone has a turn to hold the ball and is encouraged to share about something interesting happened on the weekend.

Snack – JKs were encouraged to eat a healthy snack.

French class – please visit Mme. Jessica’s blog http://mllehousja.blogspot.com/

Recess and Lunch

Language – this week we are learning about the letter C. JKs used play dough to form the uppercase and lowercase C.

Math/UOI – in math we completed a sorting activity which we tied with our UOI. We reminded ourselves about the dentist visit and which foods are healthy for the teeth. Then students had to cut pictures of different foods and glue them in the correct box (healthy teeth/non healthy teeth).

Recess and Lunch

Morning circle time – we had our special helper of the day doing our calendar, we sang our morning songs, then added one more popcorn to our 100th Day of school counting.

Language/UOI – today we worked on our names. JKs had precut letters to build their names.

Math – today we had math centers: we used play dough to make “apples” according to the number on the paper, then we had puzzles to match the pictures to the correspondent number and finally we used beads to match the correspondent number on the pipe cleaner. All these activities dealt with fine motor skills.

Fine Motor Activities

Fine motor skills are those that involve a refined use of the small muscles which control the hand, fingers and thumb.
Here are some examples of activities we will do throughout the year:

  • Pour sand, water, salt, sugar, rice, or beans using bowls, funnels, spoons, cups, tubes, rolls, colander
  • Sort small objects with interesting textures like cotton balls, pastas, sponges, and rocks placing them into egg cartons
  • Push objects through a slot like pennies or buttons into a Piggy Bank or container with a slit in lid; pushing pegs into a board
  • Pick up marbles and putting them in a jar; for variety, have child stand up and drop marbles into jar or drop balls or other small objects into container or sack
  • Build with blocks, logs, legos
  • Lace with lacing cards – poking string through holes and pulling
  • Grasp wooden puzzles pieces and placing correctly
  • Arrange rocks, leaves, beans, cards, pasta, sticks or whatever interests child
  • Pick stickers off page and successfully placing onto something
  • Play with Play Dough and clay: pull, press, stretch, roll, pound, squeeze, pinch
  • Squeeze glue bottles, water guns, sponges
  • Shake bottles of glitter
  • Bead necklaces with yarn or pasta wheels and lacing string
  • Push pipe cleaners into foam shapes with center cut out or push into colanders
  • Mark with fat pencils, crayons, markers, and sidewalk chalk
  • Cut with child safety scissors which are blunt and fits hand. Open and close the scissors as well as cut, increases hand strength.
I really encourage you to do these activities with your child at home.
You may find most of the ietas at the dollarstore. :)

Hands on activities!

Dear Parents,
Homework doesn't always have to be a paper and pencil kind of work. Most importantly it needs to be relevant and engaging!
Here are some of the hands on activities we do in class and students love it! :)

You may try to do these activities at home! :)
