Happy Monday!

Music class – please visit Ms. McMillan’s blog https://mrsmcmillanmusic.blogspot.com/

Morning circle time – we had our special helper of the day doing our calendar, we sang our morning songs, then added one more popcorn to our 100th Day of school counting. Today is Monday, so we also shared what we did over the weekend.

Snack – JKs were encouraged to eat a healthy snack.

Recess and Lunch

Language – this week we will be learning about name, sound and formation of the letter E. Lowercase e is a bit challenging for the JKs as they need to practice a round line. JKs used play dough to form the uppercase and lowercase E.

Math – in math we had centers which dealt with numeracy. Take a look:

Fun Cleaning Friday!

Who said cleaning has to be boring?
So proud of my helpers! There is so much students can learn by helping with simple jobs around the classroom! :)

Happy Friday!

Recess and Lunch

Language – today we did a cut and paste activity where JKs had to cut pictures which begin with the letter D. We practiced holding the scissors. The opening and closing motion of cutting with scissors helps children develop the small muscles in their hands otherwise known as fine motor skills. These muscles are crucial for holding a pencil or crayons and gripping and manipulating objects. Cutting also helps develop eye-hand coordination as children hold the paper with one hand and cut with the other while tracking the movement of the scissors with their eyes. Another important skill that is developed through cutting is bilateral coordination. Bilateral coordination involves using both sides of the body at the same time while each hand is performing different tasks.

Math – in math we used play dough and counters to practice *1:1 correspondence and we also used play dough to decorate cupcakes by matching the "sprinkles" to the correspondent number. *One to one correspondence is the ability to match an object to the corresponding number and recognise that numbers are symbols to represent a quantity. Young children often learn to count without having an understanding of one to one correspondence. This means that while they can count they may not understand the meaning or value of the numbers. Numbers and symbols are abstract for children so 1:1 correspondence is the connection between the symbol, the language and the quantity.

Happy Thursday!

Morning circle time – we had our special helper of the day doing our calendar, we sang our morning songs, then added one more popcorn to our 100th Day of school counting.

Snack – JKs were encouraged to eat a healthy snack.
Silent reading  - we have 10 minutes of silent reading every other day. This is great to work on reading stamina. Reading stamina is a child's ability to focus and read independently for long-ish periods of time without being distracted or without distracting others.

Recess and Lunch

Language – today, after singing our jolly phonics song, we did some art with our names. JKs had colourful paper to glue on their names.

Math – today we used number puzzles to work on number sequence, fine motor skills and hand and eye coordination.

Gym class – please visit Ms. V’s blog https://msvphysed.blogspot.com/

Centers – today we had play food, connectors and Mr. Potato Head. Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head is great for developing the following: grasping skills, pretend play, associative play, developing body awareness, spatial awareness, sorting, number concepts and identifying functions of the body parts (e.g. why do we need the nose? why do we need the ears?).
