Morning
circle time – we had our
special helper of the day adding the date to our calendar, we sang our morning
songs, then added one more popcorn to our 100th Day of school counting. Today is Monday,
so we had our sharing time, where we shared what we did over the weekend. This
is an exercise of developing self-regulation. JKs practice listening skills and
self-control, as they can only talk when it’s their turn.
Snack – JKs were encouraged to eat a healthy snack.

Language – we reviewed our phonics song for all letters learned
so far. Here is the link for our weekly Jolly Phonics songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7K2rxtgQpd0
This
is the song for letter Q: https://youtu.be/CZ6L8EmV3gg
The
letter of the week is Tt. First, we practiced writing uppercase and lowercase
Tt, using the dry erase boards. JKs love using the dry erase markers as it
gives them a steady grip. Then we used play dough to form uppercase and
lowercase Tt.
Math – today we reviewed numbers 6-10. JKs had to count the
objects in a set. Then cut and glue the correct number matching the amount of
objects.
UOI – today we were introduced to our new unit of inquiry.
This is what JKs will inquiry about:
Central Idea: Human
inventions continue to change the way transportation is used.
- The
technological change of transportation.
- The need
for different types of vehicles.
- Rules of
the road and why they are important to follow.
Students will work collaboratively to learn
different modes of transportation through inquiry based/teacher initiated
learning and discussions. They will reflect on the impact of transportation in
the world. Students will also reflect on the learned modes of transportation
and determine its purpose within the world.
Students will be encouraged to reflect upon
the following questions: What kinds
of transportation are there? Why do we need transportation? What
kinds of transportation can we use to get to other places in the world?
What kinds of transportation have been used in the past and will be used in the
future? How do children go to school in other parts of the word?

Centers - today JKs had the opportunity to play dress
up. Dress-up engages your child’s brain and memory.
Dramatic play requires kids to remember what they’ve seen or heard. It also
develops the following: vocabulary building, problem-solving,
empathy, emotional development, motor skills, socialization and imagination.
Poem Practice – JKs
are working hard at practicing the following when presenting their poem:
-
Projection
-
Pacing
-
Enunciation
and Articulation
-
Memorization
-
Body
Language
Poetry memorization builds vocabulary and comprehension.
As students practice their poem presentation in class they are building
presentation skills, which leads to a sense of pride, satisfaction and
accomplishment. Keep up with practicing at home as well!
Have a great evening everyone!
